I was prepared to like 1 More's evo ear buds. In fact, I expected to like them a lot.... BUT after over 4 hours of trying to get an ldac connection, or an aptx hd, or even just plain vanilla aptx (which can now be found on some $15 ear buds), um.. no dice. it is the first time my FIIO has failed to connect in ldac or aptx on any audio device which features these protocols. I thought, maybe they have gone Bose's route, and insist that you use your phone, their app, so they can collect your data, which I personally hate, in fact, will not do, I mean ever. Why should I when there are *a lot* of good options which do not require same.
BUT, I reluctantly installed their app and tried my phone, which may or may not have ldac. It does have aptx and aptx hd, but again, no dice. I got neither, that is, none of the above.
Noty incidentally, they are collecting your data, which is enough for me to deduct 5 stars and make them earn some back. They did, a few, but there are some serious issues with these buds (besides being, essentially, spyware).
They seem to have Qi charging. At least my charger thinks so, according to the lights which lit up when I put it on the deck, but after 15-20 minutes it was *really* HOT., i MEAN REALLY HOT.
The app was good for doing an over the air update, which was supposed to take care of known issues. I am not sure what those were, but still not ldac, no aptx.
It did enable me to add volume control to the touch pads, which really should have been there to begin with, HOWEVER, it also added assistant which I do not want. In fact, it messed with my phone settings so that I may have to do a factory reset to get rid of all the permssions it added and unwanted Google apps it switched on. Yeah, trying these ear buds will have cost me over 10 hours by the time I am done undoing the damage they have done.
Even without the apx hd, ldac, aptx, the sound is pretty good, which ought to be good news for apple listeners who can not use any of the high res protocols.
But, there are a lot of pretty good ear buds now, for considerably less. Many with aptx and some even with apx hd and/ or ldac, which works!
After 4 hours of fiddling, updating.... No aptx, no ldac, on either my FIIO or my Motorola phone (not too exotic, either of them) I tried some of my older ear buds to compare soiund quality, and.. well it still does not get anywhere near Sony's flagship, except for the price, Devialet, nope.. not them either.
1 More was radical at one time for their (comfortable) fir. These are a step back in that regard. Still better than many, but at this point in time, there are a lot which are more comfortable, to include most of their older buds.
I am personally unlikely to ever wear them again, since I do have better sounding buds, and several which fit better and are more comfortable, and a whole lot which have *working* aptx, aptx hd and or ldac. I am a fan ofd Qualcommm's high res chips, and I have upwards of a dozen audio devices featuring them.... probably a few dozen. Ldac is a Sony protocol which you will not find often. You will mostly find itr on Sony equipment, on which it works flawlessly. Not so on these.
In fact, I was so disturbed by not being able to get the connection after charging both devices fully
